  1. In my previous post, I said that LDS church doctrines written more than 180 years ago were being substantiated more and more these days. Although the Urantia book is still the only definitive revelation to show the true magnitude of creation in God's cosmos, there are scientists getting closer and closer these days. [As reported in the January 12, 2012 issue of the British science journal Nature] “Kailash Sahu, of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Md., is part of an international team reporting today that our galaxy contains a minimum of one planet for every star on average. This means that there is likely to be a minimum of 1,500 planets within just 50 light-years of Earth. The results are based on observations taken over six years by the PLANET (Probing Lensing Anomalies NETwork) collaboration, which Sahu co-founded in 1995. The study concludes that there are far more Earth-sized planets than bloated Jupiter-sized worlds. This is based on calibrating a planetary mass function that shows the number of planets increases for lower mass worlds. A rough estimate from this survey would point to the existence of more than 10 billion terrestrial planets across our galaxy.” [emphasis added] [Here is even more recent support, this time from a SPACE.COM Science story posted to the internet in February 2013] “Astronomers have calculated that 6 percent of the galaxy’s 75 billion or so red dwarfs — stars smaller and dimmer than the Earth’s own sun — probably host habitable, roughly Earth-size planets. That works out to at least 4.5 billion such “alien Earths,” the closest of which might be found a mere dozen light-years away, researchers said. “We thought we would have to search vast distances to find an Earth-like planet,” study lead author Courtney Dressing, of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), said in a statement. “Now we realize another Earth is probably in our own backyard, waiting to be spotted.” Dressing and her team analyzed data gathered by NASA’s Kepler space telescope.” [emphasis added] As reported in a very recent article on Phys.Org, Dr Phil Yock from the University of Auckland's Department of Physics explains his conclusions about the number of earth-like planets we are likely to discover in the Milky Way. "By interpolating between the Kepler and MOA results, we should get a good estimate of the number of Earth-like, habitable planets in the Galaxy. We anticipate a number in the order of 100 billion." 2. I am going a little bit wider afield with this next post, please indulge me this little latitude. It still pertains to clear Urantia Book information within the LDS Church Canon, which information is still only partially understood within the membership of the church. I am fascinated by the apparently long period of time wherein these various pieces of cosmological information were revealed to mankind. It is still remarkable what was written by Joseph Smith, Jr. in the 1820s - 1830s; and which has survived in the Doctrines of the LDS Church. Within The Pearl of Great Price there is clear reference to "...innumerable worlds..." and "...innumerable heavens..." and "...works without end..." and "...words without end..." in the writings he produced between June 1830 & February 1831. I need to make specific quotes here; but although I will keep them as short as possible, there still needs to be appropriate contextual support. “And he saw God face to face, and he talked with him, and the glory of God was upon Moses; therefore Moses could endure his presence. And God spake unto Moses, saying: Behold, I am the Lord God Almighty, and Endless is my name; for I am without beginning of days or end of years; and is not this endless? And, behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I will show thee the workmanship of mine hands; but not all, for my works are without end, and also my words, for they never cease.” [selections from the Book of Moses, Chapter 1, verses 2-4] “And behold, the glory of the Lord was upon Moses, so that Moses stood in the presence of God, and talked with him face to face. And the Lord God said unto Moses: For mine own purpose have I made these things. Here is wisdom and it remaineth in me. And by the word of my power, have I created them, which is mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth. And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many. But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.” [Moses 1:31-35, emphasis added] “And it came to pass that Moses spake unto the Lord, saying: Be merciful unto thy servant, O God, and tell me concerning this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, and also the heavens, and then thy servant will be content. And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying: The heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine. And as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof even so shall another come, and there is no end to my works, neither to my words. For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. And now, Moses, my son, I will speak unto thee concerning this earth upon which thou standest; and thou shalt write the things which I shall speak.” [Moses 1:36-40, emphasis added] It makes no difference to me if some readers feel Joseph Smith, Jr. was not a prophet, because the substance of the passages I’ve quoted is becoming more and more substantiated and proved as the days go by. What is most amazing to consider, at least for me, is this: if Joseph Smith, Jr. wasn’t someone entitled to Divine Revelation, then where did he get the information in June of 1830 to make these statements? To put it another way; this amazing man was telling the world that there were innumerable inhabited worlds in the universe, which worlds God created and named and peopled and watched over; and Joseph wrote these things more than 182 years ago! That’s startling, to say the least. God has his own purpose for creating people, worlds, and heavens beyond number. He said it was wisdom, and such wisdom remained with Him. So, God has an unknowable wisdom about the innumerable peopled worlds in the innumerable heavens He has had created by the “…word of his power…” which is his “Only Begotten Son.” God says there is no end to his works, which includes innumerable inhabited worlds in innumerable heavens; and there is no end to the words of his power, which are his only begotten sons, the actual world & heaven creators. What . . . ? Unending world-creating sons of God, who are out there creating more and more inhabited worlds in more and more heavens in a continuously expanding universe? You will not find more than a handful of non-Urantia Book-reading LDS Church members who comprehend that part about "...unending world-creating sons of God..." However, it is my view that it is a clear reference to the revelation of the Paradise Michaels and their audacious adventures of Universe Creating and Universe Perfecting in the 7 Superuniverses. With the earliest inhabited planets of our universe, Nebadon, dating from 200 Billion years ago, [P.654 - §3], it is stupendous indeed to consider the magnitude of creation! I believe one could clearly regard the idea of an individual universe, like Nebadon, being referred to as one of the "...innumerable heavens..." in these extracts written by Joseph Smith, Jr. That pushes back the date of the [at least partial] revelations about Michaels & their Universes just about a whole century! How cool is this? "JR" Sherrod
  3. I am convinced that Spiritual persons and or constructions can indeed occupy the same space as material things; BUT I get the strangest feeling that spiritual persons do not usually occupy the same space as material persons. I cannot say why that seems strange to me , but it does. I'm going off now to look up some UB references that talk about material things seeming unreal and/or nebulous to spirit persons. TTFN
  4. Howard, you're going to have to give me a specific reference; I don't remember having read anything in the Urantia Book about Atlantis. As far as I know, it's a "pleasing myth" at best.
  5. “I Build Houses” I am convinced that continuing, modern-day revelation represents profound, yet naturally-evolved answers to mankind’s questions about God, and about our place in the universe. Let me begin my explanation with a parable of mine. One day, a 3-year-old boy asks his daddy what he does. The dad promptly, and sincerely, answers: “I build houses.” The little one walks away satisfied. When the 7-year-old boy again asks his daddy what he does, the father explains that he is the boss of a company that builds houses for people. Once again, the boy walks away satisfied. When the 13-year-old boy asks his dad what he does, the father explains that he has a construction company that plans and develops communities of new houses, and then actually builds those new communities. He further explains, in his answer, that he has entire sub-contracting companies he oversees, who do much of the specialized work in furthering his new-community construction. After a good half-hour discussion, the young teenager walks away, satisfied. In fact, the boy can actually aspire to become what his father is, possibly for the very first time. When the 18-year-old young man has graduated from High School, and asks his father what he does, the man-to-man discussion lasts far into the night. The young man hears about entrepreneurship, “Environmental Impact,” governmental regulations & oversight, international acquisition of building materials, professional trade unions, architecture, civil & electrical engineering, personnel management, and so much more. They frankly discuss various Universities and courses of study for the young man. The scope and detail of the discussion is limited in many respects, but is still magnificently rich. The son falls asleep satisfied, and awakes the next morning infused with purpose, vigor, and direction. When the 26-year-old Professional Engineer asks his father what he does, his father admits that he spends much time planning for the day when his son can assume joint leadership of the Company he started so long ago. After graduating with a Civil Engineering degree, and with the 4 years apprenticeship in his father’s company under his belt, the son now understands just how much he has yet to learn; but he looks forward with satisfaction to that day when he can, in fact, become a joint partner with his father. He also looks forward to the day he answers his own son’s questions. When his newborn son can someday ask: “Daddy, what do you do?” he’ll answer: “I build houses.” And that’ll be just right! Our place in the universe and in our Heavenly Father’s kingdom is something like that little boy asking his daddy what he does. We are, as yet, so immature and inexperienced in the goings-on of the huge, rich cosmos that we cannot possibly grasp very much more than the basics. For sure, we are no longer the nomadic, technologically ignorant peoples of 6 or 7 thousand years ago. Nor are we, any longer, the somewhat more civilized, world-wise citizens of the Roman Empire, either. Today, we are a people in the midst of technological innovations and scientific understandings that far transcend the concepts of peoples ten or twenty centuries past (let alone those of 6 or 7 thousand years ago!). We have progressed to the point where we are intellectually ready for so very much more of the story – but we are most likely STILL not quite ready for the whole, complete story. Never fear, for we are family; and when we are ready for more, our loving Heavenly Father will surely provide. We are told, after all: “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” [Luke 12:32] Jesus knew 2000 years ago that the time had come when the closely-disciplined little ones, his Father’s earthly children, could be given more information – hence the “New Testament” of the Bible. His “Good News” was strikingly different from what the men and women of his culture had heard before. Countless majorities embraced it; while the few, established authorities who felt threatened by the apparent upsetting of the social & theological applecart, sought to suppress and destroy the new & different – and even the messenger, too. The thing is, had they analyzed it more, and actually sought to understand the message Jesus preached, they could have recognized the natural evolution of the message was appropriate to their own natural evolution socially, culturally, theologically, and even psychologically. The difference between what Moses proclaimed and what Jesus proclaimed was nothing more than those additional, profound truths a wise, loving Heavenly Father knew that his children were ready for – and he provided them through Jesus Christ. The father of the 3-year-old boy didn’t lie to his son; he simply provided the son with information to the uttermost limits of his young son’s capacity to understand. The father might never have actually swung a hammer, or personally sawn a beam, but that does not mean that his statement; “I build houses” was wrong. In fact, that statement, in its simplicity, invited investigation and nurtured growth. Right on from the very start, the wise father freely gave his son all the information he was able to handle. The difference between the information – revelation, if you will – that the father shared with the 7-year old boy is that there is a hierarchy of labor & organization concerning house building, and his daddy is the guy in charge. The father did so when it was right for the son; and did so in a way that fostered the son’s healthy development and sincere motivations for a wonderful future as a full-partner with his father, in his father’s life’s work. By answering so freely, the father also established and reinforced the son’s absolute right to come to the father for any answer, at any time. The father established a personal, intimate relationship of love and trust. Continuing revelation perfectly accomplished, the son eventually embraced the father’s vision; and joined with his father in the “family business.” We are the little flock Jesus spoke to. We are the children of the Eternal Mansion Builder. We are able to petition God for answers, through our prayers. Just as the child of the house builder, we may expect to receive answers “…to the uttermost limits…” of our understanding. We should expect to receive answers when it is right, and in a way that fosters our healthy development and reinforces our sincere motivations. Those answers from our Heavenly Father, great or small, are the nucleus of continuing, modern revelation. As such, continuing, modern revelation clearly builds upon the answers of the past. It appropriately rests upon the foundations of previous revelations, and utilizes the scaffolding of simplified, circumscribed understandings to erect more correct, more permanent spiritual edifices within individuals and cultures. Scaffolding must, of necessity, be adjusted, increased, moved, and eventually removed during construction – one can’t complete some structures by merely building on one side, for instance! Neither does a fully functional, completed structure even need scaffolding any longer; therefore the scaffolding is cast aside and discarded. No matter how necessary, even critical, scaffolding may be before and during construction of any permanent structure, there is very often no trace of the scaffolding to be found after the structure is completed and placed into its intended service. Such is true, I suspect, of many of the supposedly sacred and inviolate religious dogma, rituals, and doctrines – especially those modified or eliminated through continuing, modern revelation. Continuing, modern-day revelation naturally corrects some minor misconceptions, which inevitably grow in the mind of immature, ignorant children; even as it gives, perhaps for the first time, the information necessary for the genuine aspirations of the children toward “the family business.” It neither invalidates, nor replaces religion. It, instead, wondrously superimposes upon the properly prepared mortal mind a heavenly panorama of grace, growth, and accomplishment. Harold Sherrod, Jr Las Vegas, Nevada December 2006
  6. Hi Rick, Louis, and others! I am going to post my parable in the Religion, Theology, & Philosophy sub-forum. It's called "I Build Houses"
  7. Hey Absonite! I am sad that you seem bitter about the future destiny of those children who one day lay claim on Paradise as their permanent home! Let me assure you that the "Heaven" envisioned by people on this planet cannot hold a candle to the amazing realities of Heavenly Father's Paradise. What the eternal future holds for such mortally unfortunate children, who are actually blessed beyond our comprehension, I simply cannot say; but there is more hope for them, I know. Let me share with you some of that hope. . . (252.7) 22:9.5 The Celestial Guardians and their associates, the High Son Assistants, have never been indwelt by Adjusters. Neither are they Spirit nor Son fused. The embrace of the Paradise Trinity does, however, compensate for the nonfused status of the Trinitized Sons of Perfection. The Trinity embrace may act solely upon the idea which is personified in a creature-trinitized son, leaving the embraced son otherwise unchanged, but such a limitation occurs only when so planned. (252.8) 22:9.6 These twice-trinitized sons are marvelous beings, but they are neither as versatile nor dependable as their ascendant associates; they lack that tremendous and profound personal experience which the rest of the sons belonging to this group have acquired by actually climbing up to glory from the dark domains of space. We of the ascendant career love them and do all in our power to compensate their deficiencies, but they make us ever grateful for our lowly origin and our capacity for experience. Their willingness to recognize and acknowledge their deficiencies in the experiencible realities of universe ascension is transcendently beautiful and sometimes most touchingly pathetic. (253.1) 22:9.7 Trinitized Sons of Perfection are limited in contrast to other Trinity-embraced sons because their experiential capacity is time-space inhibited. They are experience-deficient, despite long training with the Supreme Executives and the Teacher Sons, and if this were not the case, experiential saturation would preclude their being left in reserve for acquiring experience in a future universe age. There is simply nothing in all universal existence which can take the place of actual personal experience, and these creature-trinitized sons are held in reserve for experiential function in some future universe epoch. If God holds one type of being (Trinitized Sons of Perfection), in reserve for "Future Experience," is it not possible that other beings who are "Mortal Experience Deficient" may be included in His plans for future mortal experience, probably in the now organizing universes of outer Space? The long trip through the Ascendant Pilgrim's path, from Mansion Worlds, through the Constellation, Universe, and Superuniverse; and then the perfect Central Universe Worlds of Havona, merely prepares these wonderful children for the unequalled blessings of not only going to Paradise, but for being able to call Paradise HOME. That's what the rest of the world wants for them, does it not? How many people of faith pray for these children to "...go straight to the bosom of God in Heaven..." where they are forever safe from pain or danger? I do not know for certain, of course; but my faith is kindled for their future, which unending future leads toward the future worlds and future experiences in the brand-new universes now being formed in outer space. I am comforted by this hint at their Eternal rewards, for I know no person in all the whole cosmos loves these children more than God, our Heavenly Father! Does that sound unreasonable to you?
  8. Hi LouisM, and all my other friends! I have written an original, modern parable about continuing, modern revelation. It's titled "I Build Houses." It is about 1330 words long. Would anyone want me to post it?
  9. Hey LouisM! The children you are asking about become the Permanent Citizens & Residents of Paradise. They never leave Paradise and they do not enter the Corps of Finality. Here is the quote you are seeking. [P.532 - §1] On the nursery world, probationary creatures are grouped according to whether or not they have Adjusters, for the Adjusters come to indwell these material children just as on the worlds of time. Children of pre-Adjuster ages are cared for in families of five, ranging in ages from one year and under up to approximately five years, or that age when the Adjuster arrives. [P.532 - §2] All children on the evolving worlds who have Thought Adjusters, but who before death had not made a choice concerning the Paradise career, are also repersonalized on the finaliter world of the system, where they likewise grow up in the families of the Material Sons and their associates as do those little ones who arrived without Adjusters, but who will subsequently receive the Mystery Monitors after attaining the requisite age of moral choice. [P.532 - §3] The Adjuster-indwelt children and youths on the finaliter world are also reared in families of five, ranging in ages from six to fourteen; approximately, these families consist of children whose ages are six, eight, ten, twelve, and fourteen. Any time after sixteen, if final choice has been made, they translate to the first mansion world and begin their Paradise ascent. Some make a choice before this age and go on to the ascension spheres, but very few children under sixteen years of age, as reckoned by Urantia standards, will be found on the mansion worlds. [P.532 - §4] The guardian seraphim attend these youths in the probationary nursery on the finaliter world just as they spiritually minister to mortals on the evolutionary planets, while the faithful spornagia minister to their physical necessities. And so do these children grow up on the transition world until such time as they make their final choice. [P.532 - §5] When material life has run its course, if no choice has been made for the ascendant life, or if these children of time definitely decide against the Havona adventure, death automatically terminates their probationary careers. There is no adjudication of such cases; there is no resurrection from such a second death. They simply become as though they had not been. [P.532 - §6] But if they choose the Paradise path of perfection, they are immediately made ready for translation to the first mansion world, where many of them arrive in time to join their parents in the Havona ascent. After passing through Havona and attaining the Deities, these salvaged souls of mortal origin constitute the permanent ascendant citizenship of Paradise. These children who have been deprived of the valuable and essential evolutionary experience on the worlds of mortal nativity are not mustered into the Corps of the Finality.
  10. If you have found it worthwhile to read and believe The Urantia Book, accept the fact that not all persons will respond the same way. Offer the highest truth you have found to others, and do so with love. You should love your brothers and sisters with the love Jesus had, and serve them - even the ones who disagree with you. Especially the ones who disagree with you! Higher truth will spark a flame of recognition within the soul of a genuine Truth-Seeker; so you should seek to always live the truth the very best that you can. One day, maybe 25 or 50 years from now, a genuine seeker may be born of a person who initially disagreed with you. Also remember, the sharing of personal testimony about religious truths is often best accomplished person to person, one on one. Even if you communicate with folks using today's advances in communications' technologies, be personal and personable, like with an individual Skype session, for instance. Don't contend with folks, either. If they reject or accept your offerings, leave them with the feelings that you are still their friend, no matter what. It might be a longer or shorter season between the sowing and the harvesting. I have encountered similar reactions within my own family, and it has been both shorter and longer seasons before some accept what I believe & share. It has been 12 years with some, who still seem very far from accepting what I believe to be true, all the while we remain close and dear to each other. They are receiving the witness of the Spirit of Truth, and finding it confirmed in the way I live and act. One day, if they choose, I shall share all that I have with them; for now, I love them! Remember, in the end God wins; so if it doesn't seem that God is winning, it's not the end!
  11. Nope, not going to be a "Rapture;" neither is there going to be a need for the dematerialization technique on our world. We may be many things, but with a Divisional Headquarters of the Archangels on our world, and the fact that we are the sphere whereupon Michael of Nebadon experienced his terminal bestowal, and earned full Sovereignity over Nebadon, along with the title Planetary Prince of Urantia, this little sphere isn't going anywhere! We are watched over, loved, and cared for from our system, all the way to Paradise, and back. No, the planet Urantia, 606 of Satania will be here in 2013, 3013, 4013 & 5013; and even to the far-off year of 25013. The only way any of the survivors of mortality will leave our planetary home is through death, or Adjuster Fusion.
  12. I will make an admission here... These few papers about the Supreme scare the dog-snot outta me! They have been so difficult for me to grasp; each time I read them, my eyes glass over and my brain hurts. I read them, and after reading - slowly and deliberately, I assure you - I can't tell you one thing. I worry that if I am to master these papers before I go on to the Mansion Worlds, I'll be HERE, on Urantia, for a thousand years! I expect to follow along, reading and considering each post and each response; and I doubt I'll be able to contribute anything, except my rapt attention. It will be valuable to me, I sure; but I really can't wait to get to Part IV. BTW - My brain already hurts . . .
  13. ...that sound you just heard is me smacking my forehead! Maybe next time I'll have to be original and eloquent only once... Thanks, Bonita!
  14. Wow, Bradley! You just said a whole mouthful there! There may be something innate in folks self-elevating themselves to membership in some one or another corps. While being ego-puffing self-inflation, such may also be the way mankind rehearses for future capabilities. Even the mental exercise of such self-nomination to greatness is one way the soul expands its future capabilities; a guiding dream that drives action and energies, yes? Think about the young, disadvantaged orphan who hears about Horatio Alger, then says; "I can do that!" Or what about the girl who tells herself and her friends she is going to be the leader of a nation - then ends up President of India, or Israel, or Governer of Alaska, or Secretary of State. I agree with you Bradley, about the absurd multitude claiming they are part of a vanishingly small little group of about 1,000 out of 7 Billion; but SOMEONE obviously is in the various corps, and the need for individuals to step up and accomplish great things will only increase. If folks try on the requirements (or merely begin to dream about trying it on) and make themselves more capable of such an assignment in the future, is it all bad?
  15. I agree with you wholeheartedly, Bradley! I have previously written about both of your points here, but it is grand to hear/read them from another Kingdom Resident; a real Citizen of Eternity! The Urantia Book gives true teachings. Honestly, now; there is no inherent way a firstborn, perfect turtledove, or a lamb, or a ram, or a scapegoat, or a whole bullock is able to erase sin, cleanse mankind, and enable salvation - that type of thinking and religion is just one small step above human sacrifice! It is altogether vain and selfish to assert such horrifying requirements came not from mankind’s own savagery and ignorance, but from the perfect and loving Heavenly Father. The next, necessary step away from barbarism is to stop sacrificing another living being, altogether, and to offer instead, as a sacrifice to God, our humble contrition, obedience, worship, and love. Yet, here we are, living among the “enlightened” Christians at the dawn of the 21st Century, who still preach that a “human scapegoat,” Jesus Christ, is the ultimate human, blood sacrifice that erases all mortal sin, without really understanding what God & Jesus Christ are really trying to teach us. I have grown so tired of hearing that Jesus only came to “…suffer, bleed, and die…” for us, as if his earthly life had no worth, no value beyond his torture and death. I want to stand on the rooftop and yell: "Stop shouting that Jesus DIED for us, and start recognizing that He LIVED for us!" I am convinced that God doesn’t delight in the punishment or death of the unworthy or disobedient. Heavenly Father wants sincerity, humility, teachability, and faithfulness in the face of adversity. He wants children who will look to him for guidance and inspiration – and then courageously get to work doing something worthwhile! When they fall into sin, error, or misfortune, Heavenly Father wants his children to repent, rise up, dust themselves off, and try again; and to do so in everlasting faith! Mankind will be so liberated when we all begin to understand we are Sons of God, and not slaves! Our Heavenly Father would probably like mankind to transform our collective beliefs and evolutionary religion(s) into something transcendent, a true religion, or clearer cosmic view, as it were. A true religion will give an individual a place to express joy and thanks to a loving, generous Heavenly Father for their having become his literal children. A clear cosmic viewpoint will offer an individual a place wherein to become prepared for an unending eternity of ever-more-responsible work and ever-more-glorious achievement. A transcendent re-molding of our hopes for the future in the Kingdom of God will offer an individual a place wherein to dream big, and achieve even bigger, in the highest spiritual sense. If you can see beyond the mortal horizons of your short life on Earth, you can truly discover Eternal vistas of unmatched growth, loving service, and innumerable blessings in an unending life as a “Citizen of Eternity” in our Heavenly Father’s Kingdom.
